The philosophical concerns surrounding AI-generated content intersect with questions about art, technology, ethics, and human identity, and they reflect the complex and evolving nature of art in the age of artificial intelligence.
This project aims to open up discussions that can provide valuable insights into the changing landscape of creativity and expression in the digital era.
Traditional art often conveys the artist's expression, emotions, and intentions, with a focus on the figurative or portraiture that often reflects a sense of human identity, presence or the soul.
What if i were to intentionally remove the “portrait” and strip it down, allowing the AI to create it instead?
How does the ai create the bridge between the intentional gap?
Does it result in an outcome that seems more human? Or does it move it towards something else entirely?
With that in mind, i took photographs that used reflection to naturally obscure or hide the face and torso of my subject, which are often regarded as the most crucial elements that create a sense of identity or state of being.
The images were exposed to an AI system with the prompt:
Begin Metamorphosis
The software generated human figures that populated the imagery, filling in the "Gaps".
The final stills selected are chosen as i feel they best reflect a state of uneasiness or metamorphosis.
In this state of becoming, it parallels the landscape of art as a whole as we question both ourselves and our purpose.
